The Death of I am Ghost and Requiem for the Dead rises

So when I wasn’t paying attention, Steve Juliano announced that he was leaving I Am Ghost, effectively signalling the end of the band. From the remnants of IAG, a new band called Requiem for the Dead has formed.

They have their first track, or act as the storytelling element to the music has been firmly hold on to, is available to listen to on their Myspace profile and its up for download on their facebook. I have to say, my initial impression isn’t great.

IAG’s music always skirted the line between a distinctive gothic sound and sounding clichéd, but never crossed it. The strength of the storytelling and the quality of the music lifted it from falling into the trap that a lot of the more commercial bands in the same genre have. To me however, this track just sounds like every other commercial rock/pop song written for disenfranchised teenagers. However, it is still only one track, there’s more on the way. I’ll listen with interest to the full EP to see if the other tracks can pull it back from the clichéd brink.
